IPX7 vs. IPX6—What’s the Difference?

“IPX7 at the factory, IPX6 once you’re riding” describes different test conditions—not upgrades or downgrades.

  • IPX7 (Immersion Resistant): Withstands immersion at 1 m depth for 30 minutes in a static state.
  • IPX6 (Powerful Water Jets): Withstands high-pressure water jets from any direction.
Riding throws water at speed and pressure (splash, spray), which better matches IPX6 scenarios than static IPX7 immersion.

After Riding Through Water or Heavy Rain—Emergency Care

Always perform care after water exposure. Water impact, grit, and chemicals can degrade seals.

Step 1: Immediate Actions (within 30 minutes)

  • Power Down & Cool: Do not charge. Let the scooter sit in a ventilated, dry, shaded place for 2–4 hours.
  • Initial Clean & Dry: Wipe mud/grit with a soft damp cloth. Avoid pressure-washing seams/ports/switches. Finish with a dry cloth, especially gaps and brake rotors.

Step 2: Deep Inspection & Care

Area What to Do Priority
Brakes Clean rotors; low-speed test with gentle braking to dry pads and restore bite. Very High
Electronic Interfaces Charge port: dry with swabs/compressed air. Switches: press repeatedly to expel moisture. Wipe display. Very High
Battery Bay (if removable) Remove battery; clean/dry grooves and seals; ensure terminals are dry. Very High
Tires & Fenders Remove embedded stones; clear mud buildup under fenders. High
Folding Joints & Fasteners Dry thoroughly; add a drop of light lubricant to deter rust and creaks. High
Lighting Verify head/tail/turn signals. Mild fogging may dissipate; persistent droplets suggest a failed seal. Medium

Deck-High Water? If water exceeded deck height (possible controller submersion), visit a professional service center for internal harness/controller inspection. Blow-dry moisture in charge/discharge plugs to prevent internal corrosion.

Bearings: Prolonged soaking shortens bearing life. If you hear clicking or feel roughness later, replace promptly.

Core Principles—Quick Summary

  • Cool first—never charge immediately.
  • Dry first—then inspect. Wiping beats passive air-drying.
  • Focus on brakes, charge port, battery.
  • Timely care prevents costly repairs.
